New Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures

Dear Parents and Students:

The following letter needs your immediate attention and cooperation.  To abide by traffic laws and to provide safety and security to the children and residents of Saint Clair, the Saint Clair Police Department and the Saint Clair Area School District have worked collaboratively to develop new arrival and dismissal procedures for students and families.  The following procedures will go into effect, August 29th at the start of the 2011-2012 school year.  These procedures were changed to promote safety and security for our students and community members.  As a result, the traffic patterns for busing and student pick-ups have changed.

Students taking the bus: South Nicholas Street

The school drop-off and pick-up location for buses will be conducted on South Nicholas Street.   Students will enter the building through the doors located by the gymnasium on South Nicholas Street.  At no time during school hours, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., should anyone park on the school side of South Nicholas Street between the posted signs on Railroad and Patterson.  Vehicles parked between signs will be subject to traffic violations strictly enforced by the Saint Clair Police Department.

Students being picked up or dropped off by a vehicle: South Mill Street

Before the start of school, students being dropped off will enter the main entrance doors located on South Mill Street.  Students should not be dropped off before 8:00 am.  Parents that will be driving to pick up children will also use South Mill Street.  At dismissal, on the school side facing north on South Mill Street curbside not double parked, we will be utilizing an assembly line of cars for student pick-ups.  Cars will be required to keep moving and not park and wait; it will be a hand off and go system.  The safety and security of your children is our number one concern.  For the new procedure to run safely and smoothly, parents that drive to pick up children will have to adjust and adhere to the timeframes listed on the reverse side of this page.  If you arrive before your scheduled time, you will have to go around the block and wait until you child’s class is dismissed for pick-up.  For the safety of children, if you turn right onto East Railroad Street to go around the block, I strongly encourage you to travel across East Railroad Street to South Morris Street before taking the right to go around the block, because if you turn right onto South Nicholas and buses are lined up you will not be allowed to pass until buses are released.  You may park legally in town and walk to the school to pick up your child.  If you plan to park and meet your child, I encourage you to follow option three listed below.  For safety reasons, the school will not have students cross between vehicles to meet a ride.  Vehicles will not be permitted to double park on streets within the borough, and this will be strictly enforced by the Saint Clair Police Department.  When weather permits, to avoid traffic congestion, we strongly encourage parents whose health permits and who live within the borough to walk to the school to pick up their children.  At no time, may a parent park illegally or block traffic on East Railroad Street or any other street within the borough.  Any person or vehicle that violates this will be subject to traffic violations strictly enforced by the Saint Clair Police Department.

If you know you will be running late which happens to all of us from time to time, please call the school at 429-2716 and notify us of your plans for pick-up.  We will have those children wait in the office where they can meet you. For families that have children in multiple grades, all siblings being picked up will be dismissed at the scheduled time of the youngest child.  For example, if a family has a kindergarten student and an eighth grade student, both children will be released at the scheduled pick-up time for kindergarten students.

Students walking or parents/guardians walking or parking their vehicles to pick up their child: East Railroad Street

The school will dismiss true walking students through the playground heading towards East Railroad Street.  Parents who are driving and do not wish to use the South Mill Street pick up, may park legally in town and meet their child by the playground.  At no time, may a parent park illegally or block traffic on East Railroad Street or any other street within the borough.  Any person or vehicle that violates this will be subject to traffic violations strictly enforced by the Saint Clair Police Department.
