Student Council 2016 – 2017

Dear Parents,

I am sure your student has told you that they have been elected to serve on Student Council this school year. It is a great honor for them and I hope that they are excited to be involved with this school service group.

I wanted to take a moment to share with you the dates of our upcoming school events so you could put them on your families calendar. These events are mostly after school but a few do happen during the school day.

October:

19th     St. Clair Halloween Parade: Students from Saint Clair Honor Society and Student Council carry the large flag from the St. Clair Historical Society. A permission slip for this event will be given to you at the beginning of October and should be returned to myself or Mrs. Blasser.

November:

Veterans Day Program: This event happens during the school day, but any Veteran in our community is welcome to attend. The Student Council members will be distributing mugs as a thank you gift to the veterans at the conclusion of the program.

December:

16th    Winter Dance: Student Council sponsors this dance each year. Students on the Dance Committee will need to be at the school at 6:30pm. All other Student Council members will need to be at the school by 6:45pm. Student Council members also stay after the dance is finished to clean up and set the cafeteria back up. They will not need to be picked up until around 9:15pm.

January:

Penny War!: Student council will be hosting a penny war this year. Details to follow.

February:

10th    Valentine’s Day Dance: Student Council sponsors this dance each year. Students on the Dance Committee will need to be at the school at 6:30pm. All other Student Council members will need to be at the school by 6:45pm. Student Council members also stay after the dance is finished to clean up and set the cafeteria back up. They will not need to be picked up until around 9:15pm.

March 31st      PTO Chinese Auction: All hands on deck! This is our biggest event of the year. Students will need to be back at the school no later than 4:00pm. On this day, I will be staying after school, so if a student needs to remain at school that is fine, but you will need to send in a note stating that they may remain at the school under my care. Student Council members are needed to work the food stand during the entire auction. They will not be ready to go home until a half hour after the auction has finished.

May:

Relay for Life: This event happens during the school hours. Student Council officers will be needed to work the entire 2 days of the event.  Other Student Council members will be picked to work different shifts over the 2 day period.

12th    Semi-Formal Dance: 8th Grade members do not work this dance! Student Council sponsor’s this dance each year. Students on the Dance Committee will need to be at the school at 6:30pm. All other Student Council members will need to be at the school by 6:45pm. Student Council members also stay after the dance is finished to clean up and set the cafeteria back up. They will not need to be picked up until around 9:15pm.

Placing Flags on Graves of Veterans: This event happens during the school day. Students will be able to take their normal transportation to and from school on this day. A permission slip with more information will be sent home in early May.

Fundraiser / Field Trip: Hopefully we are able to fundraise with yearbook again in order to take a field trip to Knoebels this year. More information will follow on the fundraiser and a permission slip will be sent home with more information about the day of the field trip.

As stated above, I wanted to get you these dates as soon as I could so you could make plans accordingly. If by chance your student is unable to attend an event, please let me know as soon as possible. I understand that sometimes unforeseen emergencies happen, but I ask that you let me know if your student is unable to attend an event by calling the school so we can make adjustments as needed.

Below are my email address and the school phone number. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about our events or our schedule. I look forward to this year and to working with your student as they serve on Student Council.

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                    Miss Ciccozzi
